World Water Day: Do not leave anyone behind

World Water Day: Do not leave anyone behind

Today, March 22, 2019, World Water Day is celebrated to highlight the importance of water and the defense of the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
Water resources and the range of services they provide play a key role in reducing poverty, economic growth and environmental sustainability. Water promotes the well-being of the population and inclusive growth, and has a positive impact on the lives of billions of people, by influencing issues that affect food and energy security, human health and the environment.

Every year, World Water Day highlights a particular aspect related to water. This year the theme is “Do not leave anyone behind”, that is, to guarantee the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. It is an adaptation of the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development: everyone should benefit from the progress of sustainable development.

“80 percent of the people in the world who have to use unsafe or unprotected water sources live in rural areas.”

One of the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) is to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. By definition, that means leaving no one behind.

ABN in its social and environmental commitment as part of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact as a Signatory Partner, has established its commitment to the ten principles proposed by the United Nations Global Compact, being active in several Targets for Sustainable Development as is SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.

ABN Pipe Systems has developed more than 20 R & D projects with public or private financing during its last 10 years of activity. As manufacturers of plastic pipe systems our goal is always to offer systems that improve and optimize the performance of current networks, either by its easy handling, or by increasing its useful life – from 50 to 100 years – offering improved materials last generation and own formulations, detailed study of the carbon footprint and minimization of its environmental impact, as well as assurance of traditional standards in terms of soundproofing, resistance, reaction to fire, etc.

Recently, the Ovalpipe II Project has been completed: “Development of ovoid systems through extrusion technology and union systems for improving the efficiency of sanitation networks” (2016-2019).

“The Oval Pipe project improves the efficiency of sanitation networks, promoting cleaner, faster networks with lower sediment deposits.”

Another of the commitments that ABN maintains with respect to SDG 6 is the reduction and optimization of water as a resource through its reuse, which contributes to reduce treatments and refrigeration. In addition, we perform an integral management of wastewater and rainwater to return them to the environment in perfect condition.
