Pre-insulated fittings in the ABN INSU PLUS system help address insulation beyond straight pipe sections. Elbows, branches, reducers and connections should be specified alongside the pipework so that changes in the route are covered by the design.
A network needs hydraulic continuity and a consistent thermal insulation solution. These are related, but they require separate checks: a correctly joined inner pipe does not, by itself, confirm that the insulation and outer protection have been completed. These five checks help prepare the selection and installation of fittings.
1. Why Pre-Insulated Fittings Matter
Changes of direction and branches are part of the pipe route. If insulation stops at these points, the area still needs a suitable solution even when the adjoining pipes arrive pre-insulated.
Including these locations in the design helps establish which components are required and which tasks must be completed on site. Give equipment connections and service connections the same attention as straight pipe lengths.
The aim is to define an installation detail for each connection. Check continuity after assembly, using the instructions applicable to the selected system.
2. Select Compatible Fittings and Jacket Variants
The product pages for ABN PPR CT INSU-AL and ABN PPR CT INSU-PE list fittings and connection solutions for their respective ranges. References include elbows, tees, reducers, adapters and other components, depending on the system and joining method.
Check the complete product reference before ordering: inner pipe material, dimensions, connection and outer protection. A general fitting description does not establish availability in every size or configuration.
For valves, removable connections and special components, confirm the scope of supply and the insulation detail. The design must also provide access to operating and maintenance points.
3. Joining Methods: Socket Fusion, Electrofusion and Butt Fusion
The joining method depends on the system, product reference and component dimensions. ABN’s published ranges include solutions for socket fusion, electrofusion and butt fusion.
Do not assign a method solely from a general rule about pipe diameter. Confirm the procedure for the selected component and use the equipment, parameters and timings specified in the applicable technical documentation.
Before work starts, check connection compatibility and allow sufficient space to operate the equipment. Joint preparation and inspection must follow the system procedure.
4. Maintain Insulation and Outer Jacket Continuity
After completing the hydraulic connection, check how the insulation and outer jacket must be finished around the joint. Depending on the selected solution, additional operations may be required in the connection area.
Pre-insulated fittings help plan these locations, but their supply does not replace inspection of the completed installation. Avoid leaving unfinished areas or treating a connection as complete simply because the inner pipe joint has been made.
For exposed or buried routes, pay particular attention to the outer protection and the details at changes of direction. Ask the technical team about any arrangement not covered by the available documentation.
5. Checks Before Concealing the Pipework
Reviewing the route can reveal incorrect references, unfinished connections or areas that will later be difficult to inspect. Check:
- That the installed components match the drawings.
- Compatibility of materials, dimensions and joining methods.
- Insulation and outer protection at connection points.
- Supports and the space required to access valves and equipment.
- The inspections and tests specified before commissioning.
Addressing these points early helps prepare orders and installation sequences. Explore the ABN INSU PLUS range and request the documentation for the references specified in your project.
Check the scope of supply before allocating installation tasks. The site team should know which parts arrive assembled, which connections remain to be made and which insulation or jacket details must be completed after jointing.
