ABN has taken another step forward in its social and environmental commitment as part of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact, the largest corporate sustainability initiative. ABN has established its commitment to the ten principles proposed by the United Nations Global Compact, being active in the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Gender equality
Ending all forms of discrimination against women and girls is not only a basic human right, it is also crucial to accelerate sustainable development.
Clean water and sanitation
In order to guarantee universal access to safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030, it is necessary to make adequate investments in infrastructure, provide sanitary facilities and promote hygiene practices at all levels.
Decent job
The Sustainable Development Goals aim to stimulate sustainable economic growth by increasing levels of productivity and technological innovation. Promoting policies that stimulate entrepreneurship and job creation is crucial for this purpose.
Industry and innovation
Investment in infrastructure and innovation are fundamental drivers of growth and economic development. With more than half of the world’s population living in cities, mass transit and renewable energy are increasingly important, as well as the growth of new industries and information and communication technologies.
Reduction of inequalities
To curb this increase in disparities, it is necessary to adopt sound policies that empower the bottom percentile of the income scale and promote the economic inclusion of everyone, regardless of their gender, race or ethnicity.
Responsible production and consumption
The efficient management of shared natural resources and the way in which toxic waste and pollutants are removed are vital to achieve this goal. It is also important to urge industries, businesses and consumers to recycle and reduce waste, as well as to support developing countries to move towards sustainable consumption patterns by 2030.
