Insu Plus in aluminum or polyethylene: how to choose the right sleeve for your installation

Insu Plus in aluminum or polyethylene how to choose the right sleeve for your installation

Insu Plus is available with different outer jackets, and choosing the right one depends primarily on where and how the piping will be installed. This article explains the criteria for choosing between aluminum and polyethylene (PE) jackets to help you order the option that best suits each project.

Same pipe, different sleeve

It’s important to start with a clear understanding: the core of the system remains the same. Insu Plus can be manufactured with an inner PPR CT pipe (the most common option) or with our Water pipe (polyethylene), depending on the project’s requirements. The outer jacket surrounding that inner pipe can be made of aluminum or polyethylene.

Both shirts are high-quality solutions. The choice is not a matter of “better or worse,” but rather of suitability for the conditions at each facility.

The aluminum sleeve

The aluminum duct is primarily designed for indoor installations: utility rooms, suspended ceilings, service shafts, and runs within the building.

A distinctive feature of this variant is that the thickness of the pre-insulated pipe is usually thinner, partly because the spaces for installing the pipes indoors are more confined. The specific insulation thickness is always determined according to the requirements established by RITE for each installation, based on the diameter, operating temperature, and location of the piping run. Thanks to the quality of the insulation, the system meets the values required by RITE with an optimized thickness. The table reflecting this information can be found in the technical data sheet available on our website.

The polyethylene (PE) sleeve

The PE jacket is designed for outdoor and underground installations: district heating, connections between buildings, and outdoor runs. It features a thicker insulating layer, making it suitable for withstanding greater temperature fluctuations and the conditions typical of outdoor environments.

How to choose the variant

As a general guideline, aluminum is well-suited for indoor use, and PE for outdoor use or underground installation. However, this should not be taken as an absolute rule: the final selection depends on exposure conditions, available protection, humidity, weather exposure, and the layout, and should be confirmed with our technical department.

The recommendation is simple: tell us where the pipe will be installed, and we’ll advise you on the best option. The decision is yours, and no matter which configuration you choose, we at ABN will make sure the product turns out right.

What sets Insu Plus apart

Beyond the jacket, there is one feature that sets Insu Plus apart from other solutions on the market: the oxygen barrier. It is one of the features our customers value most, because it helps protect the installation throughout its service life. No matter which jacket you choose, this feature is part of the system.
